Originally a small mining community that began after gold was discovered in 1867 until 1940 when the Aztec Mine closed. At its heyday there were over 20 buildings including the Aztec Mill, which was destroyed by fire in 1923. Located in the 10,098-acre Baldy Territory that was purchased by Norton Clapp and donated to Philmont in 1963. First staffed in 1966.
